Fall 2010

Wow! So much is happening with Dancing in the Rain of late!

~ First many of us went to see Burn the Floor, the show was fabulous and all who attended were inspired!

~ Then Fall classes started and boy are we having a good time. There are three classes happening right now. A beginning Ballroom at 7pm on Monday nights, an awesome cardio dance class "Latin Groove" follows it at 8pm and also a bi-monthly intermediate class has begun.

~ Then there was the Portland "Komen Race/Walk for the Cure."

~ And finally this weekend the Oregon Fall Festival came once again... We spent the day watching students of all ages and levels compete and as always spectating and cheering for dancers is always such fun. I got to catch up with some old friends from my dancing past and introduce them to those students of mine who attended. The evening started with a nice dinner, then some pro-am competition, a great solo final where a dear friend of mine placed third (way to go Faye!) and the night ended with an absolutely wonderful pro-Latin-show!

If you haven't attended any of these special events or classes you are missing out! I hope you'll join us all for the "Dance in the Dark" Friday the 29th, we are going to have a lovely time :-)

Fall Dancing

Hi Dancers,

I sure hope you have all been enjoying this lovely weather. Summer is almost over and so much is happening. The Fall schedule is looking full of all kinds of fun dancing and special events! Please carefully read through the schedule below as you don't want to miss out. Let me know if you have any questions and plase RSVP to these events/classes.

~ Thursday August 12th - Cinderella's Ball Camp for 5-7 year old girls 11am - 1pm
~ Thursday August 19th - Cinderella & the Prince Camp for 5-7 year old girls AND boys 11am - 1pm
~ Friday August 20th - August Dance Party (Night-Club Two Step class)

Summer appears to have actually arrived!

Summer dance parties:

8:00pm Basic group class
8:30-10:30pm Open Dancing
$5 cover @ Sherwood Dance Academy

- Friday June 25th Dance Party (Hustle class)
- Friday July 23rd Dance Party (Salsa class)
- Friday August 20th Dance Party (Night-Club Two-Step class)

For the first time I will be teaching 'little ones' to Ballroom Dance in some fun one time camps! I am very excited about this! The camps will be for little girls and boys age 5-7 years old. The camps are hosted by the Sherwood Dance Academy and I am happy to say that I will have some assistance from dance teachers that are experienced with teaching dancing to this age group. For more information about the camps please follow this link.

Private lessons will continue throughout the Summer and I will be able to teach later into the evening adding a 9pm slot for Mondays, Thursdays & Fridays. Looking forward to working with many more excited Brides and Grooms :)

Spring Announcements

I hope you are enjoying this lovely evening. Last weekend's City of Roses Ballroom Classic was a great time, six of us attended, I hope we will fill two tables at this year's Fall Festival in October. Mark your calendars for Friday October 8th and/or Saturday October 9th. Congratulations to Heather Scott! The winner of Dancing in the Rain's drawing at the 2010 Portland Bridal Show. Heather and her groom have won two private dance lessons to get them started on their special dance :)

Spring Classes

I will soon need to schedule Spring group classes and would love some input from you as to which dances you would like me to cover and also what times would be good for you.

Portland Bridal Show 2010

This year the Portland Bridal Show appears to be an even greater success for Dancing in the Rain than the past two years as part of the show. I began receiving emails from Brides and Grooms during the show, and handed out nearly 1000 Bridal brochures along with an unknown number of business cards. Many Brides and their family members entered in the drawing for 2 private lessons and overall it just seemed as though the attitude and excitement about dancing for weddings was greater this year! I will be drawing a name from the hundreds of entries and posting the winner in the next day or so, after I finish recovering from this exhausting weekend. I look forward to working with the many Brides and Grooms this Wedding Season and am very hopeful for a profitable 2010.

2009 Dances

This Fall I started having monthly dances in order to provide a practice venue for my students. Many of you are a bit shy when it comes to social dancing and these small parties have provided a safe place to practice and hopefully you will soon venture off to grander parties around the Portland area. The parties are becoming more popular each week and I hope to have a full house regularly soon!
